Co-organized by OMA and Hongik University, this special lecture series explores the urgent
phenomenon of urban shrinkage in South Korea. Bringing together leading experts from architecture,
urban planning, sociology, and economics, the series examines the causes and consequences of
population decline and spatial contraction in cities nationwide. Through cross-disciplinary dialogue,
participants will discuss new strategies and possible futures for adapting to—and thriving within—an
era of shrinking cities. For the first iteration of the series, we invite Lee Sam Su, a researcher at the
Land and Housing Research Institute, and Park Yun Mi, Professor at the Seoul National University’s
Interdisciplinary Program in Urban Design. Following their presentations on the current state of
shrinkage across regions nationwide and the theoretical and conceptual background of urban
shrinkage, we will have a Q&A session on demographic change and urbanism.
OMA와 홍익대학교가 공동으로 주최하는 이번 특별 강연 시리즈는 한국 사회가 직면한 심각한 도시
축소 현상을 탐구합니다. 건축, 도시 계획, 사회학, 경제학 분야의 저명한 전문가들이 한자리에 모여
전국 도시의 인구 감소와 공간 축소의 원인과 결과를 분석합니다. 학제 간 대화를 통해 참가자들은
축소되는 도시 시대에 적응하고 번영할 수 있는 새로운 전략과 미래 가능성을 논의할 예정입니다. 이번
시리즈의 첫 번째 강연에서는 토지주택연구원의 이삼수 연구원과 서울대학교 협동과정 도시설계학과
박윤미 교수를 모셨습니다. 전국 각 지역의 도시 축소 현황과 도시 축소의 이론적, 개념적 배경에 대한
발표 후, 인구 변화와 도시화에 대한 질의응답 시간을 가질 예정입니다.
